100,000 Digital TIN IDs Issued, Reaches Milestone

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has successfully issued 100,000 digital tax identification number (TIN) IDs to Filipino taxpayers who are choosing to avoid long lines at district offices. According to BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui, the agency has distributed a total of 102,046 digital TIN IDs in the span of four months.

The digital TIN ID is a government-issued document that is recognized by various state agencies, local government units, banks, employers, and other institutions. Unlike the physical TIN card, the digital version does not require a signature for validation.

To ensure the authenticity of the digital TIN ID, taxpayers can verify it through the Online Registration and Update System (ORUS) by scanning the QR code on the ID. Existing TIN holders are also eligible to apply for the digital version free of charge.

Lumagui emphasized that the digital TIN ID is not for sale and cautioned taxpayers against availing the services of online sellers offering TIN ID assistance. He warned that obtaining invalid or fake TINs from unauthorized sources could lead to complications in future transactions with the BIR.

Both the physical and digital TIN IDs are considered valid proofs of TIN ownership, subject to authentication and verification online. The BIR has provided specific guidelines for uploading photos to ensure that the images accurately represent the individual.

Photos that do not meet the specified requirements will be deemed invalid for transactions, and uploading unrelated photos may result in penalties. Taxpayers are advised to adhere to the guidelines to avoid any issues with their digital TIN IDs.
