The story of Sahara, an American singer who discovered her love for OPM

American singer Sahara collaborates with Paul Sapiera, vocalist of the ‘90s Pinoy band Rock Star, for her latest single titled Agos. The Las Vegas-based artist, known as “The American OPM singer,” expressed her love for Original Pilipino Music (OPM) and her excitement for the release of this rock-inspired song on April 20 in the US.

In a recent interview, Sahara shared her admiration for Filipino singers like Jaya and Regine Velasquez, which sparked her interest in OPM during her junior high years. She has covered OPM classics like Dahil Ba Sa Kanya and Buwan, as well as Christmas songs such as Tanging Hiling and Pasko’y Ipagdiwang.

Sahara described her collaboration with Paul Sapiera as a fulfilling experience, praising his talent and creativity. Agos, the product of their teamwork, delves into the theme of heartbreak and infidelity in a romantic relationship, providing Sahara with emotional depth to convey through her music.

Despite being a classically-trained artist, Sahara embraced the challenge of learning and memorizing Tagalog lyrics for Agos, showcasing her dedication to OPM and Filipino culture. She views herself as a vessel for storytelling through music and aims to connect with her audience on a global scale using social media platforms.

Looking ahead, Sahara expressed her desire to visit the Philippines and perform for her Pinoy fans, highlighting the endless possibilities that await artists in the digital age. With a positive outlook on her recording career and a strong connection to her faith, Sahara is grateful for the journey she is on and looks forward to sharing more of her art and music with the world.
