Team USA Thwarts Germany, Advances in Final 8 Race



Team USA emerged victorious in the men’s Volleyball Nations League, winning a crucial match against Germany with a score of 25-23, 21-25, 26-24, 25-23 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. This victory marked their second consecutive win in the tournament, bringing their standing to 5-6 and putting them in contention for a spot in the Final 8.

Leading the charge for the Americans were Matt Anderson and Torey Defalco, who contributed 23 and 20 points, respectively. Despite an early setback, Germany rallied in the fourth set and briefly took the lead at 21-19. However, the USA fought back with a series of plays, ultimately securing the win with a block by Defalco and Jeffrey Jendryk.

In the losing effort, Gyorgy Grozer led Germany with 16 points, while Tobias Krick and Lukas Maase added 12 points each. The defeat dropped Germany to 4-7 in the tournament, placing them in 12th position overall.

The two teams are set to wrap up the Manila leg of the Volleyball Nations League, with USA scheduled to face Japan and Germany going up against Iran in their final matches at the same venue.
