No increase in fare amidst public utility vehicle modernization campaign

LTFRB: No Fare Hike Amid PUV Modernization Program

MANILA, Philippines — Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III stated on Friday that there is no basis to implement a fare hike for public utility vehicles (PUVs) despite the ongoing PUV modernization program.

Currently, the minimum fare for traditional jeepneys is P13 and P15 for modern jeepneys. Guadiz emphasized that the current fare for PUVs will remain unchanged. However, any proposed fare increases will need to undergo thorough study and multiple consultations with concerned agencies.

According to Guadiz, factors such as inflation and the cost of fuel must be considered before the agency approves a new fare increase. Petitions for fare hikes must also go through assessment and study to determine their feasibility with the LTFRB Board.
