Maxicare notifies NPC about data breach

Health insurance provider Maxicare has reported a data breach to the National Privacy Commission, as confirmed by the NPC on Tuesday. The report was received on Sunday at 12:49 p.m., but details on the compromised information have not been disclosed yet.

A cybersecurity group called Deep Web Konek claimed in a blog post that the data breach exposed personal and booking information from over 1,000 companies. This includes addresses, Maxicare card numbers, and history of requested procedures of health insurance members.

According to Deep Web Konek, Maxicare allegedly notified affected members of the data breach on June 16. The notification stated that unauthorized access was gained to personal information submitted to Lab@Home, a third-party provider for laboratory requests from home. Although Lab@Home operates a separate database that is not integrated with Maxicare’s systems, the breach still impacts Maxicare members.
