Joey de Leon asserts the everlasting relevance of ‘Eat Bulaga’ brand and TVJ after almost five decades: ‘We are widely popular’

After successfully renewing the trademark registration for “Eat Bulaga” for another 10 years, Joey de Leon, one of the original hosts of the show, took to Instagram to emphasize the show’s relevance. He quoted physicist Albert Einstein, saying, “Creativity is intelligence having fun.” He went on to mention that he had fun in 1979 creating the title “Eat Bulaga,” and expressed surprise at how the brand has remained popular and controversial after almost five decades.

In a separate post, de Leon criticized a certain group of people, urging them to be creative and implying that they were unable to see the success and longevity of “Eat Bulaga.”

Meanwhile, the camp of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon, known as TVJ, appeared unaffected by the trademark renewal. Their lawyer, Enrique dela Cruz Jr., stated that the renewal process is simply a legal duty, and it doesn’t affect the ongoing petition for cancellation at the Bureau of Legal Affairs of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).

Dela Cruz clarified that the renewal of the trademark registration is a straightforward procedure as long as the applicant pays the fee and submits a declaration of actual use. He added that the renewal doesn’t prejudice the pending petition for cancellation.

Overall, despite the ongoing controversies, “Eat Bulaga” remains a prominent and long-standing show in the Philippine entertainment industry.
