Cagayan de Oro grappling with water supply issues

Thousands of households in Cagayan de Oro City are facing water supply issues as the bulk water provider for the city’s water district has cut off its valves. Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water Inc. shut off water supply to Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) after no response was received regarding a demand to settle a P470 million obligation for previous water deliveries. COWD disputes the billing, claiming they have not increased rates for customers and cannot afford to pay. Affected areas include various villages in the city and parts of neighboring towns. The city government has implemented a contingency plan to ensure residents have access to water through private water trucks and the Bureau of Fire Protection.
