Thirteen-Year-Old Girl Dies from Rabies Due to Dog Bite
MANILA, Philippines — A 13-year-old girl has tragically passed away after contracting rabies from a dog bite she received just months prior.
According to the Animal Kingdom Foundation, an NGO, the girl named Jamaica was bitten by a dog on February 9, and her condition deteriorated until her untimely death.
Jamaica was able to document her experience and feelings leading up to her passing. She expressed her fear of disappointing her parents by not telling them about the dog bite. Jamaica also hoped that her case would raise awareness about the dangers of rabies.
The Animal Kingdom Foundation also emphasized the importance of pet vaccinations and preventative measures against rabies, as there is currently no cure for the disease.
The Department of Health reported 89 cases of rabies from January to March 2024, all of which resulted in fatalities due to the lack of a cure for rabies. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the severity of rabies and the importance of prevention.
