Allies of Former President Rodrigo Duterte Urge Vice President Sara Duterte to Lead Movement

Convenors of the Hakbang ng Maisug, a movement initiated by supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte, are calling on Vice President Sara Duterte to take charge of the fight for the Filipino people now that she has left her position in President Marcos’ Cabinet.

This plea comes as the opposition coalition Tindig Pilipinas criticizes Vice President Duterte for her perceived lack of action on critical issues such as Chinese incursions in the West Philippine Sea.

Vice President Duterte recently resigned from her roles as Education Secretary and vice chair of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

The Hakbang ng Maisug movement expressed its unwavering support for Vice President Duterte, citing her credibility, popularity, and position as the nation’s second-highest public official as reasons for her to lead the people against the Marcos administration.

Formed during a rally in Davao City earlier this year, the Maisug movement has evolved into a political opposition group to the Marcos administration.

The movement criticized the suppression of their activities, claiming that permits for rallies in several cities were denied and supporters were suspended.

They accused the president of putting the country at risk of war and extended an invitation to Vice President Duterte to lead the fight for transparency, accountability, peace, and security.

However, the opposition coalition Tindig Pilipinas disagreed with the notion that Vice President Duterte’s resignation marks the birth of a new opposition. They highlighted issues of mismanagement and incompetence during her tenure in the Department of Education.

The group emphasized that despite stepping down from her Cabinet positions, Vice President Duterte remains entrenched in political conflicts that prioritize personal interests over public welfare.

They concluded by stating that Vice President Duterte is not a champion of the democratic opposition, citing her silence on crucial issues and defending her father’s actions.

The Filipino people are urged to remain vigilant and dedicated to genuine reform, moving beyond superficial changes in political leadership.
