Rubio assumes role as MGen president and CEO

A seasoned power energy executive, Emmanuel Rubio, has been appointed as the new president and CEO of Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen), effective today. Rubio, who recently retired as the president and CEO of Aboitiz Power Corp., brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role at the power generation arm of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).

During his time at AboitizPower, Rubio held various executive positions and made a significant impact in the power sector. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by MGen to pursue growth opportunities that will benefit the company, the host communities of its projects, and the country as a whole.

Meralco chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan expressed his confidence in Rubio, stating that he will play a crucial role in aligning MGen’s plans and strategies with the government’s objectives of ensuring energy security and sustainability. Pangilinan looks forward to Rubio’s fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that will position MGen as a reliable partner in driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

With Rubio at the helm, MGen is aiming to expand its presence in the renewable energy sector by adding 1,500 megawatts (MW) of capacity. One of Rubio’s immediate priorities is to help finalize a $3.3-billion deal to establish an integrated liquified natural gas facility in collaboration with AboitizPower and San Miguel Global Power Holdings Corp. This initiative is expected to bolster the country’s power supply with over 2,500 MW of generation capacity upon completion.

Rubio takes over from Jaime Azurin as president and CEO of MGen, as well as a member of the Board of Directors. Azurin will continue to serve as the president of Global Business Power Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of MGen.
