Robredo rules out running for senator

Former Vice President Leni Robredo has announced that she will not be running for senator in the 2025 midterm elections. In an interview in Naga City, Camarines Sur, Robredo stated that she has informed the Liberal Party (LP) of her decision. Instead, she revealed her intention to run for mayor of Naga, a position previously held by her late husband.

The news of Robredo’s mayoral bid was first shared by LP president and Albay 1st District Rep. Edcel Lagman, who mentioned it during an interview at the Batasang Pambansa complex. This announcement came shortly after Vice President Sara Duterte resigned from her position as Education secretary.

While Robredo acknowledged Lagman’s statements, she clarified that the context of the interview was primarily about a potential offer for her to become Education secretary. Despite her interest in the mayoral race, Robredo emphasized that she has not made an official announcement yet, as she still needs to finalize some details.
