In a recent interview, Senator Imee Marcos urged her brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to take a firm stance and put an end to the people’s initiative (PI) to amend the 1987 Constitution. She expressed concern over the illegal and unconstitutional means through which the initiative was obtained and emphasized the need to address it properly to avoid controversy. While acknowledging that her brother is a kind person, she also stated that kind people often get taken advantage of. Despite the politicization of the initiative, President Marcos Jr. remains committed to changing the economic provisions of the constitution, but is uncertain about the viability of the PI approach.
