Philippines’ Team Alas determined to overcome challenges



The Philippine women’s volleyball team is gearing up for the AVC Challenge Cup from May 22 to 29 at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum with limited preparation time. National coach Jorge Souza de Brito emphasized the team’s determination to compete fiercely during a briefing at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

Setter Jia de Guzman, a talented player from Creamline, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to make the country proud. She highlighted the strength of the players individually and emphasized the importance of teamwork.

The team, which includes experienced veterans like Sisi Rondina and Cherry Nunag, as well as promising young talents from the PVL, is set to face tough competition from Australia, India, Iran, and Taiwan in Pool A. The tournament offers a chance to qualify for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Challenger Cup in July.

The event will also feature teams from Vietnam, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Singapore, and Hong Kong in the other bracket. The Philippine team is determined to give their best and showcase their skills on the international stage.
