P9 billion worth of drugs destroyed by PDEA

A total of P9 billion worth of illegal drugs was recently destroyed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in a facility located in Cavite. According to a statement released by the agency on Thursday, PDEA has successfully incinerated illegal drugs amounting to P9,102,467,185.99, with a total weight of 2,435,619.8626 grams.

Among the destroyed drugs were Methamphetamine Hydrochloride weighing 1,293,934.2149 grams, Marijuana weighing 720,898.6564 grams, and Ephedrine weighing 359,752.1449 grams. Notably, the destroyed drugs also included 1.2 tons of shabu seized during the Alitagtag drug haul in Batangas on April 15.

As of May 22, the Department of Justice reported that a Canadian national linked to the seized items has been charged with possession of illegal drugs and use of fictitious names in a separate arrest in Tagaytay. The individual is set to undergo further investigation to determine his involvement in the Alitagtag drug haul.

The incinerated drugs were confiscated during anti-drug operations carried out by PDEA in coordination with the Philippine National Police, National Bureau of Investigation, and other law enforcement agencies. These drugs were destroyed through thermal decomposition, ensuring that they were completely broken down at temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius, making reconstitution impossible.
