OCD allocates P8 million for Batanes in preparation for La Niña

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has allocated P8 million in aid for typhoon-prone Batanes in anticipation of the La Niña weather phenomenon. La Niña, which typically follows an El Niño event, is expected to bring increased rainfall, according to the state weather bureau.

Office of Civil Defense Administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno emphasized the importance of preparing for the impact of strong typhoons in Batanes, which is known for being isolated during extreme weather events. He highlighted the significance of pre-positioning essential relief goods and equipment to ensure immediate availability when needed.

The assistance package includes seven generator sets, non-food items, shelter repair kits, hygiene kits, and ropes that can benefit over 400 families in Batanes. The donation was officially handed over to Batanes Governor Marilou Cayco in a recent ceremony at the Batanes State College.
