Medialdea dismisses summons for Duterte

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea chuckled at the idea of former President Rodrigo Duterte being summoned to the House of Representatives’ investigation into his controversial war on drugs. Medialdea claimed ignorance of Duterte’s anti-drug campaign, which resulted in over 6,000 deaths. Despite only 54 cases being deemed questionable, Medialdea, a prominent lawyer, did not explain why only three deaths were prosecuted during Duterte’s presidency. The House committee has been holding hearings to address accountability for the victims of the drug war, with activists questioning why Medialdea finds the situation humorous. If the administration is proud of the number of drug suspects neutralized, they argue, then they should be willing to explain their actions.
