Marcos desires a more robust PAF to protect Philippine sovereignty

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called for a stronger Philippine Air Force (PAF) to defend the country’s sovereignty and territory during a recent command conference at Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.

Details of the specific orders given by Marcos were not disclosed by the Palace, but Communications Secretary Cheloy Garafil confirmed that the President was briefed on the recent activities, plans, and proposed projects of the PAF. Garafil also mentioned that Marcos provided guidance and instructions to strengthen the PAF further.

The command conference took place against a backdrop of both internal and external security concerns. Rumors of an internal destabilization plot against Marcos’ administration have emerged, with former military and police officials suspected of involvement. Additionally, tensions in the West Philippine Sea have escalated since Marcos took office, with China’s increasing presence and reported harassment of Philippine vessels.

The call for a stronger PAF comes as part of Marcos’ efforts to ensure the defense of the Philippines’ sovereignty and territorial integrity.
