Senate President Zubiri Visits Pag-asa Island to Enhance Telecommunication Signal

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri visited Pag-asa Island to oversee the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Philippine Navy barracks and a super rural health unit. During his visit, Zubiri expressed his intention to engage with telecommunications companies to improve the network signal on the island.

Zubiri highlighted the importance of internet access, especially for school children who rely on it for research. He mentioned plans to reach out to companies like Smart and Globe to install facilities that would enhance the telco signal on Pag-asa Island.

Furthermore, Zubiri addressed the territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea, asserting the Philippines’ ownership of Pag-asa Island and neighboring territories. He emphasized the need to strengthen the capabilities of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Coast Guard to ensure security in the region.

Zubiri also allocated funds for various projects on the island, including a super rural health unit with advanced facilities and a disaster response vehicle. He underscored the importance of supporting the development of Philippine territories in the West Philippine Sea.

Despite the presence of Chinese vessels near Pag-asa Island, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro assured the safety of residents, stating that no nation would dare attack civilians in the area. Zubiri and other government officials conducted security briefings to address concerns and prioritize the defense and development of the municipality.

The visit to Pag-asa Island concluded with a boodle fight for residents and guests, symbolizing unity and resilience in the face of territorial challenges. Through these initiatives, Zubiri aims to showcase the thriving community in Kalayaan and reinforce the Philippines’ stance in the West Philippine Sea.
