Phivolcs documents brief phreatic activity at Taal Volcano

A short-lived phreatic event was observed in the Taal Volcano main crater on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The event, which lasted for about five minutes, produced a 500-meter-tall steam plume that drifted west-northwest. This observation led Phivolcs to maintain Alert level 1 over Taal Volcano.

This recent phreatic event follows four minor successive phreatic eruptions recorded on May 10, driven by the continued emission of hot volcanic gases at the main crater. A similar occurrence was also observed on April 20.

The authorities are closely monitoring the situation at Taal Volcano to ensure the safety of residents in the surrounding areas.
