PAGASA: Rain showers expected over Western Visayas, parts of Southern Luzon due to Habagat

The state weather bureau has reported that the Southwest Monsoon, also known as habagat, will bring scattered rain showers over portions of Southern Luzon and Western Visayas on Sunday. According to the latest weather bulletin, Batangas, MIMAROPA, and Western Visayas can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. There is a possibility of flash floods or landslides in these areas during severe thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms. The state weather bureau also warned of potential flash floods or landslides in these conditions.

In terms of heat index, some areas in the country are expected to reach a “danger” level on Sunday. PAGASA identified 35 areas with heat indices ranging from 42°C to 46°C. The heat index takes into account both relative humidity and the actual air temperature, giving an indication of how hot it feels.

PAGASA typically classifies areas under “danger” when temperatures rise between 42°C to 51°C. Individuals are at risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat cramps or heat exhaustion during this extreme heat. To avoid complications, the public is advised to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated, and schedule activities during cooler times of the day.
