BI launches document examination laboratory at Mactan-Cebu International Airport

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has recently unveiled a forensic document laboratory at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport aimed at identifying fraudulent travel documents. Equipped with a video spectral comparator, this new facility is set to enhance the detection of fake documents, according to a press release issued by the BI.

BI’s Anti-Fraud Section Chief, Marivic Beltrano, highlighted the significance of this development in the ongoing battle against document fraud. The agency disclosed that the equipment for the laboratory was provided by the Australian government, which also conducted training sessions for the personnel.

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco commended the initiative, praising it as a reflection of the BI’s commitment to public service and national security. He expressed gratitude for the support from the Australian government and acknowledged the tireless efforts of the Anti-Fraud Section.

This dedicated forensic document examination laboratory is now operational not only at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport but also at other key locations like the BI’s main office in Manila, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Clark International Airport, and Davao International Airport.
