A look at the actress who delved into dark places for her character

Actress Marian Rivera Takes Physical Risks for Role in Independent Film “Balota”

Actress Marian Rivera recently revealed that she refused to use a stunt double for her action scenes in the independent movie “Balota,” which led to her sustaining cuts and bruises. Directed by Kip Oebanda, “Balota” is set to be showcased at this year’s Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival in August.

During a media event, Rivera expressed her excitement for the film and shared that it presented her with several new challenges, including portraying her character without makeup and performing her own fight scenes. Despite the physical toll it took on her, Rivera was dedicated to giving her all to the project.

In “Balota,” Rivera plays a teacher assigned to be a poll watcher during the 2007 elections. Director Kip Oebanda explained that Rivera’s commitment to realism led to her sustaining injuries during filming, such as bruises from carrying a heavy steel ballot box.

Notably, Rivera’s dedication to her character extended beyond physical challenges, as she insisted on applying actual soil to her face and body in scenes that required her to be on the forest floor. Kip commended Rivera’s commitment to authenticity and praised her acting range, particularly in emotionally demanding scenes.

Rivera expressed her interest in pursuing more action roles in the future after her experience on “Balota.” She also remarked on her positive experience working with the team and her willingness to participate in future Cinemalaya projects.

In addition to her film projects, Rivera was recently announced as the newest ambassador of the Center for Advanced Dentistry (CAD) and highlighted the importance of self-care for mothers like herself. With her dedication to her craft and diverse range of roles, Marian Rivera continues to impress audiences and filmmakers alike.
