Tech Leaders Discuss E-Governance During NICT Summit 2022

Leaders in the field of information and communications technology gathered during the NICT Summit 2022 held at the Manila Hotel on October 26-27, 2022. With the theme, “Toward a Citizen-Centric, Inclusive, and Sustainable eGovernance Ecosystem #BuildBetterMore,” the event focused on the government’s digital transformation agenda.

President Ferdinand “BongBong” R. Marcos Jr. also graced Day 1 of the summit as guest of honor and speaker. He was accompanied by DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy.

“We are committed to realize the vision of a digital Philippines. The government will also facilitate the swift passage of the e-governance bill. It is not something that we choose to do. It is something we have to do. We are playing catch up in terms of digitalization with the world. We do not have a choice here. It’s simply the way that model world works. We have to digitalize if we are going to keep up,” President Marcos, Jr. stated.

ICT Chief Ivan John E. Uy also called on his fellow tech leaders to push the Philippines to be the leader in the implementation of effective e-governance:

“Indeed, my motto for e-governance would be “Get online, don’t get in line”. It is my long-time goal to simplify government transactions and ease of access to public services to ensure that our people experience a truly efficient manner of transacting with the government,” ICT Chief Ivan John E. Uy stated.

“With that, I commit to leading the Department to achieve a streamlined and efficient government so that we can regain the trust and confidence of the Filipino people we serve. We shall remove repetitive processes and ensure that our citizens do not waste long hours on public services alone. We want them to be able to focus on more productive activities and use of their time,” Uy added.

Meanwhile, the President commended the DICT, CIOF, and CIOFF officials for organizing the annual platform to help advance the country’s digital transformation efforts through various emerging technologies. He also encouraged public and private sector collaboration to digitalize public services and empower Filipinos for the digital economy.
