FINALLY, after 50 years, the country’s FIRST-EVER METRO MANILA SUBWAY is turning into reality!
The Metro Manila Subway Project already has an approved investment and funding, with its partial operability section civil works and trains contracted out. The actual construction began in 2019 with site-clearing works at the Valenzuela Depot.
Two (2) of the Metro Manila Subway Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), each measuring 7 meters in diameter, and weighing 700 tons each, have already arrived in the country, for the start of the underground works within this year.
The subway, dubbed as the ‘Project of the Century,’ will stretch across 33.103 kilometers. The project aims to reduce travel time between Quezon City and NAIA from one (1) hour and 30 minutes, to just 35 minutes.
