Strong Winds Damage Houses and Rice Farms in Cotabato Town

At least three residential houses were completely destroyed while eleven others were partially damaged by a strong wind in Mlang, Cotabato. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, causing devastation in Barangay Buayan.

According to Louie Chiva, the town’s municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer, the strong wind was a result of intense thunderstorms. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as most residents were out working on their farms at the time.

The affected houses, mainly constructed with light materials, had their roofs blown away by the powerful wind. Additionally, newly planted rice fields in the area were flattened.

The extent of damage to the farms is still being assessed by the municipal agriculture office. In response to the situation, Mayor Russel Abonado provided food packs as immediate assistance to the affected families, who are currently staying with relatives.

The town faces a long road to recovery as residents cope with the aftermath of the destructive weather conditions.
