In a recent interview, Liberal Party President Edcel Lagman revealed that former Vice President Leni Robredo is considering running for mayor of Naga City in the 2025 elections. Lagman shared that Robredo plans to continue the programs of her late husband, Jessie Robredo, who previously held the position.
Lagman also mentioned that Robredo will support the senatorial slate of the LP and its aligned parties. However, he emphasized that it is ultimately up to Robredo whether she will accept the education portfolio if offered by the president, although he believes this scenario is unlikely.
This statement came in response to social media calls for President Marcos Jr. to appoint Robredo as the head of the Department of Education following Vice President Sara Duterte’s resignation from the position. As of now, Robredo has not made any announcements regarding her plans for the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, former senator Bam Aquino, who served as Robredo’s campaign manager, has declared his intention to run for senator in the 2025 polls.
