The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently undertaking two (2) road projects in Libacao, Aklan in order to improve tourism, trade, and industry.
Secretary Mark Villar , based on reports from DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Lea N. Delfinado and District Engineer Alejandro M. Ventilacion, said that the road construction projects currently in full swing are located in Barangay Guadalupe costing P23.41 million and in Barangay Manika amounting P79.10-million.
Both projects are about 80 percent accomplished and are expected to be completed within the third quarter of the year, Secretary Villar added.
The road project in Barangay Guadalupe aims to provide a more comfortable access to Mangayaw Waterfalls by paving one-kilometer long, 6.1-meter wide road using portland concrete cement pavement with slope protection and line ditch.
In Barangay Manika, the construction of the 3.4-kilometer long, 6.1-meter wide PCCP road with slope protection and line ditch provisions is expected to greatly benefit tayok-tayok, nito, and abaca makers by providing easier and faster delivery of native products from communities to the town proper and to the neighboring towns and provinces.
When completed, the two (2) projects will complement the two-lane, 500-meter long access road along Numancia-Lezo provincial road in the municipality of Lezo, which is dubbed as the “pottery capital” of Aklan.
The P9.3-million access road, implemented in convergence with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through the Roads Leveraging Linkages of Industry and Trade (ROLL-IT) program, was completed two months early last April.
“DPWH will remain committed in the timely delivery of these projects that generate jobs during implementation and uplift local industries after completion especially now that many lost their jobs due to the pandemic,” Secretary Villar added.
