Road Network Project in Siargao Island Nearing Completion

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar announced that a new route that will provide faster connectivity and bolster Siargao Island’s worldwide marketability is now substantially complete.

The Dapa Port – Consuelo – Corazon – Sta. Cruz – Sta. Fe – Libertad – Cabitoonan – Catangnan – Gen. Luna Road Project involves paving of 11.85-kilometer road and construction of the 2-lane 348.8 lineal meter Catangnan-Cabitoonan Bridge which showcases wide view of Siargao’s turquoise waters.

“With 97.93 percent accomplishment, the project is slowly gaining attraction from both locals and visitors as they are excited for its opening”, added Secretary Villar.
The project also covers the construction of the 2-lane 75.8 lineal meter and 36.8 lineal meter Libertad Bridge 1 and 2.

When fully completed, the new road network will serve as an alternate route from Dapa Port to General Luna beginning at junction Dapa-Gen. Luna Road and traverses Barangays Consuelo, Corazon, Sta. Cruz, Sta. Fe, Libertad, Cabitoonan, and Catangnan in the municipality of General Luna.

Citing reports from DPWH Region 13 Director Pol Delos Santos, Secretary Villar said that finishing touches on the project are being fast-tracked in time for the scheduled inauguration and opening on November.

Besides providing infrastructure support to tourist destinations in Siargao, it will also enhance accessibility and mobility within the island.

The multi-year project is undertaken by DPWH Regional Office 13 in the amount of P848 million.
