Revetment Wall Benefits Coastal Communities in Negros Occidental

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a P24.4 million flood control project that will prevent flash flooding hazard in the coastal municipality of E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental.

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the 1,112-lineal meter revetment wall now protects Barangay Tomongtong from the damaging effects of storm surges and unexpectedly high sea levels.

Undertaken by DPWH Negros Occidental 1st District Engineering Office, the flood control project consists of 988 lineal meters of stone masonry, 124 lineal meters of rubble concrete, and 124 lineal meters of metallic coated gabions.

Local officials have also expressed gratitude for the project’s completion as it would alleviate the concerns of residents during extreme weather conditions, especially fishermen, and also safeguard major tourist attractions such as the Tomongtong Mangrove Eco-Trail.
