PNP Warns Public Against Fake News

Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) chief Brig. Gen. Joel Doria warned the public against perpetrators of fake news and urged social media users to be critical of unverified information shared online.

The ACG vows to implement stricter measures to monitor and validate information circulating on social media to ensure cyberspace safety.
Appropriate charges will be filed against violators of Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code (unlawful use of means of publication and unlawful utterances) and the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

“I appeal to the public not to believe easily, videos or posts that you see online, especially if these posts have not been validated by your PNP. Your PNP ACG is working double time to ensure that the safety of every ‘Juan’ in cyberspace is attained. To all spreaders of fake news, remember this: ‘We Are Watching You’,” Doria said.
