PNP Offers One Day “Serbisyo Para Sa OFW”

The Philippine National Police in collaboration with United Filipino Global (UFG) held a one-day activity for Filipino migrant workers dubbed “Serbisyo para sa OFW” today, February 23 held at Multi-purpose Camp Crame, Quezon City.

The activity was graced by Police Lieutenant General Rhodel O Sermonia, the Deputy Chief PNP for Administration together with Ms. Gemma Sotto, Founding Chairman of UFG, Mr. Arnel Ignacio, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator, ASEC Venecio Legaspi of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Atty. Patricia Caunan, USEC for Policy and International Cooperation, DMW, representatives from Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

In her message, Ms. Sotto thanked the PNP for supporting their programs that will benefit a lot of OFWs. Atty. Caunan also expressed her gratitude to the PNP stating that the job fair that will be conducted in Camp Crame will eliminate the chance of OFWs becoming victims of illegal recruiters. Mr. Arnel Ignacio also emphasized his gratefulness as the activity will not only benefit the OFWs but will also strengthen partnerships among the agencies present.

Highlights of the “Serbisyo for OFW” were a Job fair for Japan, Canada, and Australia; a Preliminary assessment of applicants’ resumés, a Legal Help desk by the OWWA and DMW, and a PNP Caravan for more than 600 OFW participants and their families.

“Ang buong PNP ay nagpapasalamat at nagbibigay pugay sa ating mga makabagong bayani at kanilang pamilya sa inyo pong sakripisyo at tulong na mapaunlad rin ang ekonomiya ng ating bansa,”PLTGen Sermonia said in his speech.

He added, that the OWWA and the PNP have long been partners in promoting and helping the OFWs since he himself belongs to an OFW family.
