Philippine Coast Guard sends BRP Gabriela Silang for joint exercises with Indonesia and Japan



The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has announced that it has deployed its vessel, BRP Gabriela Silang, to participate in the Regional Marine Pollution Exercise (MARPOLEX) 2024 in Bacolod. The exercise, which will involve coast guards from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan, aims to enhance the capabilities of the participating countries in responding to maritime pollution incidents.

During the send-off ceremony of BRP Gabriela Silang at Panacan Wharf in Davao City, Coast Guard Commodore Rejard Marfe expressed the importance of the exercise in protecting the waters and maritime borders of the nations involved. The maritime exercise is scheduled to take place from June 24 to June 29 and will focus on various scenarios such as search and rescue, firefighting, oil spill recovery, equipment retrieval, and damage assessment.

Representatives from the coast guards of the participating countries will be actively involved in the exercises to ensure effective coordination and cooperation in handling maritime pollution incidents. The PCG remains dedicated to safeguarding the waters and ensuring the safety and protection of the open seas.
