Paved Road Supports Agri-communities in Cauayan, Negros Occidental

Locals especially farmers in Cauayan, Negros Occidental now reap the benefits of a newly-paved farm-to-market road completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

According to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, the road concreting project was undertaken by DPWH Negros Occidental 3rd District Engineering Office in convergence with the Department of Agriculture in the agricultural community of Sitio Bayabas, Barangay Man-uling.

DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno said that with the improved road, people from remote and far-flung areas now have better access to basic government services such as health and education.

“More significantly, it will allow our farmers to conveniently deliver their products to the market at a lesser hauling cost, making them earn more than they used to,” Director Bueno added.

The project involved the implementation of 5-meter wide Portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) stretching 970-lineal meters, with provision of slope protection and application of thermoplastic pavement markings and metal railings.

The road concreting project will alleviate the worries of residents in times of emergency, as they no longer have to travel through muddy and dusty roads and government aid can easily reach the barangay during calamities.
