P44-m Flood Control Structure Protects Farming Town in Nueva Ecija

A 295-meter flood control structure was completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Barangay Sibut, San Jose, Nueva Ecija.

Citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 3 (DPWH-RO3) Director Roseller A. Tolentino, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that the P44-million flood control structure built along Talavera River is a concrete protection wall with a steel sheet pile foundation.

Spur dikes were also installed along the length of the concrete protection wall to help further divert floodwaters away from the river banks.

The newly-constructed structure is expected to reduce damage to crops and properties in the area brought by flooding in times of excessive rains.

The project was completed by the DPWH Nueva Ecija First District Engineering Office (DEO) with funding from the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
