The newly-constructed flood mitigation structure by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the coastal town of San Juan, La Union – “Surfing Capital of the Northern Philippines”, provides protection for tourists, residents, and motorists.
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary Eugenio R. Pipo Jr., DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said that the seawall project was completed in Barangay Taboc, San Juan, La Union to protect residents from waves during torrential downpours and severe weather conditions.
Implemented by DPWH La Union First District Engineering Office (DEO), the project involved the construction of a 155-meter wall amounting to P29-million under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
Solar street lights were also installed, providing safer and more convenient access for surfers and residents visiting the shore.
“DPWH is undertaking major infrastructure projects in the region as part of the government’s effort to promote disaster risk mitigation and preparedness,” added Director Tan.
