OTS Inspects Security as Baguio Airport Re-opens for Commercial Flights

Office for Transportation Security (OTS) Administrator Undersecretary Ma.O Aplasca visited Loakan Airport in Baguio last November 28, 2022, to assess the security of airport facilities such as the building, control tower, runway, and aerodrome as it re-opens for commercial flights.

During the visit, the OTS met with the officials of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines to jointly assess and determine the security requirement for the said airport, and accordingly recommend security standards for its adoption.

It can be recalled that the Philippine Airlines earlier made a test flight at the said airport, and will be launching direct flights to and from Baguio and Cebu City on December 16, 2022.

Usec. Aplasca emphasized that security measures must be regarded as part of airline and airport operations.

“It is both our responsibility to provide passengers accessibility, while at the same time, ensuring their security. Many people nowadays would not appreciate security that much, until there comes another incident that would once again change how we see air travel just as we did after 9/11. That is why the OTS wants to make our message to come across resounding and clear: Security is the pillar of public trust in transportation.”
