Newly-paved Road Benefits People of Matanao, Davao Del Sur

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed its P49-million road concreting project that now benefits Barangays Cabasagan and Bangkal in Matanao, Davao del Sur.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, DPWH Davao del Sur District Engineer Nicomedes D. Parilla, Jr. said that the newly-paved road stretching 2.78 kilometers provides smoother and faster access between Barangays Cabasagan and Bangkal. The road has connected since September 2022 the neighboring communities to nearby schools, farms and markets.

“To ensure the two-way seamless traffic, we constructed a two-lane, 6.1-meter wide concrete road from the pre-existing gravel-surfaced road. This road is the preferred route of the motoring public travelling to Barangay Bangkal and Barangay Asbang, which is known for the famous Talambato Batcave, Matanao Mountain Top & other nearby tourism destinations within the province,” said District Engineer Parilla.

“With this road improvement project, we hope to make these barangays more travel-friendly, especially to farmers as the road traverses rice fields. May this road make the transportation of local farm produce such as bananas, rice and other vegetable crops be safe and efficient. With this, growth of agricultural businesses in the area will be sustained, as farmers may swiftly deliver their products to their respective distribution networks, within and outside the province,” added District Engineer Parilla.

The construction of Cabasagan to Bangkal Road was funded under the 2022 Regular Infrastructure Program, Convergence and Special Support Program-Sustainable Infrastructure Projects Alleviating Gaps (CSSP-SIPAG).
