Low-lying communities in San Jose, Antique are now safe from the raging flood waters of Sibalom River with the completion of a flood control project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno explained that the recently-completed flood control structure in Barangay San Pedro involved the construction of a 244-lineal meter revetment wall and four (4) 30-lineal meter spur dikes.
The completed project will connect to the ongoing esplanade project in the coastal barangay which will serve as an alternate route for small vehicles, decongesting traffic along Iloilo-Antique Road.
It will also prevent erosion along nearby roads, allowing for a safer and smoother travel to Barangay San Pedro, which is one of the tourist attractions in the municipality of San Jose, known for its scenic backdrop and sparkling rivers.
DPWH Antique District Engineering Office implemented the revetment wall project in the amount of P47 million.
