The town of Ballesteros in Cagayan Province, known for its picturesque sunsets, and beaches, recently opened to the public a newly-constructed seaside boulevard.

The Department of Public Works and Highways – Cagayan Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-CSDEO) recently completed Phases 1 and 2 of Ballesteros Bay View Project.

Citing a report from DPWH-CSDEO OIC-District Engineer Rellie Dalmaceda, DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan said that while final phases of the boulevard project is ongoing, the general public may utilize for physical and leisure activities like jogging, cycling, and sight-seeing, the already completed 824 linear meters two-lane road with curb and gutter, and wide concrete paved shoulders.

The Ballesteros Bay View Project is a joint undertaking of the DPWH and the Department of Tourism under Convergence and Special Support Program – Construction/Improvement of Access Roads Leading to Tourist Destinations. Its Phases 1 and 2 have received a total allocation of P40 million from the 2021 General Appropriations Acts (GAA).

Once the remaining Phase 3 and 4 are completed, it will be opened as a scenic road for all road users: motorists, bikers, and pedestrians.

District Engineer Dalmaceda said that the boulevard is envisioned to generate benefits for local tourism and small businesses which can boost the town’s overall economy, aside from providing alternate route to motorists. Accessing the beach for both locals and tourists will also be more convenient.
