LRT-1 CAVITE EXTENSION (5)

LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project Update!

The eagerly-awaited LRT- 1 Cavite Extension Project is more than halfway to completion, as we report an over all progress rate of 50.61% as of 31 December 2020.

The recent construction activities of this highly anticipated project features the bored piling, pier/portal column works, and the MIA station foundation works, altogether with the launching of PI girder which is the chief horizontal support in the structure made for turn back slots.

The accelerated pace of construction also includes the expansion of existing depot in Baclaran, and the building of a new satellite depot at Zapote.

TRIVIA: Did you know that the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project was DELAYED FOR ALMOST 19 YEARS before the Duterte Administration came in?

When Secretary Arthur Tugade came in mid-2016, only a whopping zero (0) percent has already been certified ‘free and clear’ by an independent consultant. It was a dismal percentage, given that the right of way (ROW) acquisition got its budget from Congress way back in 2007.

Now, fortunately, that disappointing statistic has been erased.

On 07 May 2019, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), together with the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and Light Rail Manila Corporation, formalized the official start of construction work for the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project. Upon completion, this railway line is expected to reduce travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor, Cavite, from 1 hour and 10 minutes down to just 25 minutes. It is also projected to increase the line’s capacity from 500,000 to 800,000 passengers daily.

Under the guidance of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the determination of Secretary Tugade, and the dedication of LRTA administrator Reynaldo Berroya, the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project is finally here.
