Flood Control Project Completed in Zambo Sibugay

Residents of the low-lying Barangay of Pilar, Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay are now less susceptible to flooding with the newly-constructed flood mitigation structure of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Region 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia said that the new revetment structure along Imelda-Bayog-Kumalarang-Lapuyan-Margosatubig Road will benefit approximately 1,195 residents of Barangay Pilar especially during onslaught of flood waters caused by rapid and excessive rainfall.

The construction of the 352-meter flood control wall in Diplahan was implemented by DPWH Zamboanga Sibugay First District Engineering Office.

The project also covers the construction of stone masonry on steel sheet piles and a 1.2-meter wide concrete walkway above the structure, with a total cost of P42-million under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

“DPWH is undertaking high-impact projects in Zamboanga Peninsula as part of the government’s flood-risk management measures aimed at preventing inundation along the Sibuguey River,” added Director Dia.
