DPWH Top Executive Administers Oath of New Members to Professional Organization of Civil Engineers

Graduates of Civil Engineering from Western Mindanao and other provinces who successfully passed the recent licensure examination have joined the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers, Inc. (PICE), among the Philippines biggest accredited professional organization, through the Zamboanga City Chapter.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Senior Undersecretary and PICE National President-elect Emil K. Sadain administered the oathtaking of 79 new members during the general assembly of the PICE Zamboanga City Chapter held February 4, 2023 at Grand Astoria Hotel in Zamboanga City.

Regional Director Alfonso C. Viloria of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Region 9 earlier officiated the oathtaking for the young professionals who passed the recent Civil Engineering board examination.

PICE represents more than 100,000 members of the civil engineering profession and is steadily growing with over a hundred local chapters in the Philippines and 13 international chapters worldwide.

In formally welcoming the new PICE members, Senior Undersecretary Sadain said that brighter and bigger opportunities are about to unfold to the new Civil Engineers as more infrastructure projects will continue to be rolled-out in the entire country.

“Construction industry will provide employment opportunities to many Filipinos in the next years to come and the commitment and dedication of the Civil engineer to ensure that projects conform to the quality and safety standards will be tested”, added Senior Undersecretary Sadain.

Senior Undersecretary Sadain was unanimously elected National President of the PICE during an executive session of the elected National Board of Directors for CY 2023-2024 held November 2022 in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

As a dynamic force in nation building, the organization of civil engineers continue to evolve and thrive over the years in achieving the goals of elevating the standards of civil engineering profession.

“With the world of civil engineering evolving at such a fast pace, keeping ourselves abreast with the best practices in the industry will be the only weapon to combat the emerging challenges in the profession”, Senior Undersecretary Sadain encouraged.

PICE in Western Mindanao headed by Regional Coordinator and DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia; Zamboanga City Chapter President and DPWH Zamboanga City District Engineer Jul-Arab A. Kong; and the rest of the chapter officers and board of directors who are honed by experience will provide immense significance in motivating and mentoring the young professional civil engineers.

The organization is also very much involved in various outreach and social responsibility program.
