The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) intends to finish in August 2021 the construction of four (4) farm-to-market (FMR) roads to facilitate faster transportation of farm products to market centers and increase agricultural productivity in various barangays of Southern Leyte.
DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that under the convergence program with the Department of Agriculture (DA), projects nearing completion are the improvement of roads in Barangay Esperanza, Bontoc Town; Barangays Nati and Bato II in Maasin City; Barangay Nahulid in Libagon; and Barangays Tagup-on and Kagingkingan in the municipality of Anahawan.
Esperanza FMR is a 1.32-lane kilometer road with a budget allocation of P12.5 million and is currently at 70 percent completion.
The Nati-Bato II Road Improvement stretches a total length of 1 kilometer with an allocation of P10 million and is currently at 90 percent completion while the Nahulid FMR with an allocation of P12.5-million has a total length of 1.32-lane kilometers and is currently at 40 percent accomplishment.
Lastly, the P12.5-million road improvement along 1.28-lane kilometer local road from Tagup-on to Kagingkingan now has an actual accomplishment of 60 percent. All of the road projects involve the installation drainage and slope protection works.
“Aside from farmers, other locals in these communities will benefit from concrete roads with easier access to health centers and schools,” said Secretary Villar.
The implementation of FMRs is under the DPWH Southern Leyte District Engineering Office.
