DPWH Improves Irrigation Facility in Guagua, Pampanga

The Department of Public Work and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed the rehabilitation of the Porac-Gumain River Irrigation System (RIS) in Guagua, Pampanga.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary Roberto R. Bernardo, DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino said that the rehabilitation works along Porac-Gumain RIS in Barangay Pulongmasle was implemented by the DPWH Pampanga Second District Engineering Office (DEO).

Funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) in the amount of P96.42 million, the project included the repair of concrete slopes on both sides of the irrigation canal with a combined length of 1,002.20 lineal meters.

Director Tolentino explained that the rehabilitation of the side slopes of Porac-Gumain RIS aims to prevent water loss and improve the canal capacity and discharge.

“Reinforcing the concrete slope of the canal system will also prevent soil sloughing and possible flooding in Barangay Pulongmasle’s nearby rice farms and public cemetery,” Director Tolentino added.
