DPWH Flood Control Structure to Benefit Dinagatnon Farmers

A flood control structure constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) now ensures no more loss of crops and damage to properties in Barangay Cayetano, Dinagat, Dinagat Islands.

“Residents and farmers in this low-lying area in the municipality of Dinagat are now free from river overflow during heavy rains, which is a constant experience on the island all year round”, said Secretary Mark Villar, citing a report from DPWH Region 13 Director Pol Delos Santos.

The newly-built 319.05 meter structure with provision of slope protection has reduced the effects of flood water especially along residences in coastal areas.

Locals in Barangay Cayetano expressed gratitude for the protection that the structure has brought, as it gave them peace of mind and improved livelihood.

The flood control project was undertaken by the DPWH Dinagat Islands District Engineering Office.
