DPWH Completes Road Concreting Project in Maasin City, Southern Leyte

A road concreting project was completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Libhu, Maasin City, Southern Leyte to improve travel condition and increase productivity in agriculture, trade, and tourism.

DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, citing a report submitted by DPWH Region 8 Director Edgar B. Tabacon, said that the ₱15-million project was funded from the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) as part of the Agency’s Sustainable Infrastructure Project Alleviating Gaps (SIPAG) program.

The project consists of a two-lane concrete road measuring a total of 1.58-lane kilometers, with added shoulder, lined canal, and slope protection works.

“With the completion of this project, farmers and local entrepreneurs in the area of Libhu can now experience a safer and faster delivery of goods to commercial hubs in nearby towns, which would eventually generate lesser transport costs and higher income returns,” said Secretary Bonoan.

People in Barangay Libhu rely mainly on farming coconut, rice, banana, root crops, fruits, and vegetables and livestock production as their main source of income.

Aside from benefitting the agricultural sector, the newly-concreted road likewise contributes to eco-waste administration as it also leads to Libhu Dumpsite; a waste management facility established to accommodate wastes, serving as a vital part of maintaining cleanliness in Maasin City.
