DPWH Completes Replacement of Overflow Bridge in Baler, Aurora

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has provided residents of Barangay Obligacion in the Municipality of Baler, Aurora with a new two-lane permanent bridge to allow better connectivity between communities.

DPWH Regional Office 3 Director Roseller A. Tolentino reported to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and DPWH Undersecretary for Regional Operations in Central Luzon Roberto R. Bernardo that the completion of the 120-lineal-meter Bridge, which now links Barangay Obligacion to Baler’s town center in Barangay Reserva.

According Director Tolentino, the construction of the bridge was prioritized to provide a replacement to the old overflow bridge that becomes impassable when the river water swells during the typhoon and rainy seasons.

Aside from the bridge, also included in the P115.8-million project were the construction of 250-meter road approach and a 509-lineal-meter flood control structure to protect the bridge foundation against scouring.

Solar street lights were also installed to ensure the safety of motorists passing through the bridge at night.

“DPWH Aurora DEO will continue to build permanent bridge structures in the province to promote safe and reliable transport of people, goods, and services,” said Director Tolentino.
