DOJ informed of Bantag’s location and willing to discuss surrender

Department of Justice (DOJ) spokesperson Dominic Clavano has disclosed that they are informed about the whereabouts of fugitive and former Bureau of Corrections chief Gerald Bantag.

Clavano mentioned during the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City that the agency is open to negotiation and voluntary surrender from Bantag if he chooses to do so. He emphasized that the DOJ will not entertain unjustifiable terms, but local authorities will handle any mitigating circumstances if Bantag decides to surrender.

Despite more than a year of evading authorities, Clavano assured that efforts to locate Bantag are ongoing. He acknowledged that Bantag is not just hiding in one location but in remote and far-flung areas where he likely has supporters.

The Court of Appeals recently rejected Bantag’s petition to dismiss the murder charge filed against him in connection with the death of radio broadcaster Percival Mabasa.

Efforts to apprehend Bantag continue, with the DOJ staying vigilant about his movements and ready to act accordingly.
