The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office No. 02 today condemns the illegal acts of selling seeds to the public as shown in social media.
According to Regional Executive Director Narciso A. Edillo, the office is serious in its campaign to help stop the proliferation of selling hybrid rice seeds that are part of the DA’s seed distribution program.
He said that DA RFO 02 is now coordinating with the National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine National Police, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, local government units and private seed companies to track the perpetrators of said unscrupulous act.
“We condemn to the highest level such that will not only affect the implementation of government programs but our farmers who will be again victims of this controversy,” he emphasized.
“DA RFO 02 shall fully cooperate with government agencies, LGUs and private sector to track the brains behind this act.”
He emphasized that seeds are given free to qualified recipients under the seed component being implemented by the National Rice Program in tandem with LGUs and farmers cooperatives and associations.
Edillo is urging the public to immediately report to DA, PNP, NBI, CIDG and LGU any individual, group or agricultural suppliers who are illegally selling seeds.
In Cagayan Valley, he explained that the seeds being distributed by DA RFO 02 are packaged at 15 kilograms. The entries in the sack include the type of seeds, DA logo, variety and “Not For Sale” tag.
“Based on circulated photos and video footages, the reported seeds are not from Region 02 but other regions with 5 kilogram packaging,” he added
Earlier, the DA RFO 02 already issued a warning through its radio station, DZDA, and social media account for the public to be aware of buying fake agricultural products such as pesticide, insecticide and others.
