Concrete Road to Boost Agriculture and Trade in Aklan

Two (2) on-going road concreting projects are being fast-tracked by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) that would further boost agricultural production and open up trade opportunities in the province of Aklan.

In the municipality of Nabas, a 1.3-kilometer farm-to-market road (FMR) with reinforced concrete lined ditch and slope protection is being constructed from Barangay Matabana to Barangay Buenafortuna.

When completed, the FMR is expected to better connect agricultural lands and fisheries to markets which will allow producers to transport their products to traders and consumers with relative ease.

According to DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie D. Bueno, the project costing P14.9 million is implemented in convergence with the Department of Agriculture under the FY 2022 funding.

On the other hand, concreting of the Batan-Mandong-Napti-Camansi-Sapian Boundary Road in the municipality of Batan is also being undertaken by DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office in the amount of P28.9 million.

Citing a report from OIC-District Engineer Gener J. Abregas, the project covers 2.4 kilometers of portland concrete cement paving in support of the coconut processing industry in the municipality.

By providing an alternative route to the adjacent province of Capiz, this convergence project under the Roads Leveraging Industry and Trade (ROLL IT) Program with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will reduce travel time and expand Aklan’s exporting market.

“DPWH will continue to partner with other government agencies to spur more economic opportunities for Aklanons and boost the agriculture and trade industries of the province,” said Director Bueno.
